Following with our Megaflux-CUF application projects. Today, we showcase the supply of our Ultrafiltration (UF) system for pure water generation in a steel company.
In a modern steel mill, cooling water does much more than keep equipment from overheating; it’s the lifeline that ensures smooth production and consistent product quality. High-velocity sprays pull heat out of red-hot slabs during hot rolling and continuous casting, powerful jets strip away scale, and quench boxes lock in the steel’s mechanical properties. Along the way, however, this water collects mill scale, oil, and fine metal particles that can clog heat exchangers and foul downstream RO membranes. By upgrading the pretreatment train with high-flux Megaflux-CUF ultrafiltration curtains, mills can turn this contaminated recycle stream into clean, reliable RO feed, reducing chemical use and downtime while sharply reducing their freshwater footprint.
To retrofit the cooling-water loop, PHILOS provided a Megaflux-CUF (UF) system with double the treatment capacity (1,800 m³/day) without expanding the plant footprint or interrupting production. Thus, replacing the conventional UF system, due to rust on steel products when applying lake water near the factory for the cooling processes.
By integrating PHILOS Megaflux-CUF, the company achieved:
- Increased income by reducing the defective rate through a constant supply of pure water of consistent quality.
- Improved RO performance, reducing membrane fouling.
- Extended membrane life with lower maintenance costs
This solution enhanced filtration efficiency, reduced downtime, and contributed to a more sustainable, cost-effective operation.
